Depression | Fear | Anxiety | Avoidance |Tension | - Are these some of the words that describe how you feel…

Fear is good…sometimes
Fear is a valuable emotion helping us protect what is important. It keeps us from rushing out into traffic without looking both ways. Sometimes the right amount of anxiety is stimulating and can help you be more alert and achieve peak performance. It reminds us not to walk down a dark alley all by ourselves. Remember how quickly you become wide awake the last time you heard your car tires hit the rumble strip on the shoulder at night.
Chronic fear
Chronic fear and anxiety are unproductive and crippling to us and those we love. We withdraw or create frenzied activity neither of which reduces our anxiety. Constant tension in our shoulders and neck drains our energy.
Avoidance
We develop patterns of avoidance to minimize fears and anxieties. But avoidance typically creates more fear and anxiety resulting in new problems, frequently seen by others before ourselves.
Longing to feel safe
We long to feel safe again, but it’s as if our body has forgotten how. We try to remember what we used to believe back in that time before we were so anxious. If that fails, we feel truly trapped. The word “panic” enters into our thoughts.
